The Mazatlan Carnival
The third largest mardi gras in the world, next to that of Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans is held annually at Mazatlan, Mexico. It is a century old pagan festivity celebrated a few days before Ash Wednesday, lasting six days, with beautiful parades along our Malecon -the world‘s longest boardwalk - live music, fireworks and incredible food.

Plaza Machado - Teatro Angela Peralta
In the south part of town, is one the most beautiful areas of Mazatlán - Plaza Machado, surrounded by superb sidewalk cafes and breathtaking historic buildings, the most important being the Teatro Angela Peralta. Built in the late 1860‘s the theatre first opened in 1874. In 1883 the famous opera singer Angela Peralta, also known as “The Nightingale of Mexico“ arrived in Mazatlán to perform the premier of “Lucia“. Traveling by ship, Ms. Peralta contracted yellow fever, and died before performing at the theater. After this incident, the theater was renamed after the diva.

The Muncipal Center for the Arts
Opened its doors in 1989, teaching clasic ballet, painting , sculpture and music school “Enrique Patron Rueda“, named after the famous mazatleco orchestra director.

Museo de Arqueologia
Small museum in Olas Altas featuring exhibits of Sinaloan history and culture as well as several pottery displays

Fuerte 31 de Marzo
Built in 1892, this fort honors the March 31, 1864 heroic efforts of a local garrison, and now serves as a maritime office.

Bullfights
Near the Golden Zone you can find the Plaza de Toros - Mazatlán‘s arena for bullfights. The bullfighting season runs from December until April.

Mazatlan‘s Pulmonia Taxis
This is the best way to discover Mazatlan. Pulmonias are open-air taxis that look much like a golf cart. They are very popular among locals and tourist as well, they are inexpensive and fun!
